Threat exists for the possibility of a significant winter storm to affect New England by Mid-Week.
Storm Chaos Weather urges those in this region to follow the latest on this winter storm.
SHORT TERM
MONDAY – TUESDAY NIGHT
High pressure appears to dominate the region through Tuesday which should allow for seasonable temperaures across the Northeast. Temperatures should be in the 20s/30s across New England to 40s across southern New England. Scattered snow flurries are possible across the Northeast Kingdom, northern NH and northern ME. Clear skies tonight should allow for temperatures to dip into the upper 20s to low 30s across southern New England and upper single digits and lower teens for New England. Partly Cloudy skies should dominate the entire region on Tuesday. Tuesday night looks generally quiet across the entire region as high pressure remains in control. High pressure slides off the coast early on Wednesday allowing for more clouds to enter the region.
MID-WEEK STORM
WEDNESDAY – FRIDAY
Clouds arrive across southern areas first and then progress upward into New England. Precipitation gets into southern New England during the afternoon hours on Wednesday and then gradually moves northward into New England and northern New England. Northern New England should see precipitation during the overnight on Wednesday and continuing into your Thursday. Precipitation should conclude during the afternoon hours on Thursday across southern New England. Low pressure looks weak as it heads off from the Plains into the Midwest. Low takes a track up into Ohio – strengthening slightly as it moves eastward. Mainly a rain event for areas of southern New England. New England is a little bit tricker as cold air will be entrained across this region longer. Seems likely that eastern areas will see the possibility of seeing more mix/sleet as mix line could get pretty close. However, majority of the models do keep the 0 degree isotherm down around northern MA and coastal areas of NH and ME. CMC is the warmest of the models which would bring the mix line all the way up to around Springfield VT to possibly even as far north as White River Junction in VT. Other models never bring it north of Brattleboro VT. If a coastal low can develop offshore, this may keep the colder air in place for majority of the event to be all snow. To early to determine totals at this point, strong wrap around winds/snow will likely develop in the wake of this system. This may allow for additional accumulations on the back side of this system.
Colder temperatures should follow this system across majority of the Northeast. Another system may impact the region by the end of the weekend bringing another round of wintry precipitation to the region.
Stay tuned,
