New England/Northeast Weather…
The rest of the Labor Day weekend looks mild and sunny as high pressure builds in. Sunshine and mild weather should continue through much of the week as high pressure dominates. Southern New England and Mid-Atlantic region could flirt with 90 degrees this upcoming week. A frontal boundary could move through by next weekend.
Gustav – The Next Katrina?
Gustav is now a very dangerous storm packing winds of up to 150 MPH, with higher gusts. Gustav is a very strong category 4 hurricane and on the brink of becoming a category 5 storm. The track of the storm appears to bring it just to the west of New Orleans making landfall somewhere along the central Louisiana coastline sometime on Monday. I’m thinking around the Morgan City coastal area. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for many towns and cities (including New Orleans) as Gustav approaches from the south. Gustav is expected to make landfall as a category 3 or 4 hurricane.
Hanna…Ms. Loop de Loop
Hanna is not going to be a straight forward storm. Not at all. High pressure that will be dominating our weather in New England and the Northeast will keep Hanna from gaining much northern latitude. I’m thinking the storm is going to be forced southward and much of the latest computer models bring it into the Caribbean. The long term track of the storm is uncertain if the storm recurves and moves back into the Atlantic (similar to Fay) or stays in the Gulf of Mexico and makes landfall somwhere along the Gulf coast. The mere dynamic nature of this storm will be tricky for the models to get a good handle on it. Stay tuned for the latest on the storm system.
African Tropical Wave/Favorable Development
There is a cluster of thunderstorms that has moved off the eastern coast of Africa. This cluster of storms may develop into our next tropical depression. The computer models are split on where the storm goes and whether it turns into a tropical depression or diminishes out to sea.
Site Updates/College Move-in
I am scheduled to move into my college residence hall on Monday, September 1st 2008. I will try and update as best as I can from now until then. Please check back for more updates on the storm and the weather.
