- STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS TO CONTINUE TO IMPACT MUCH OF NJ/NYC METRO/BOSTON METRO AREAS
- SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH ACROSS NJ/NYC METRO AREA STILL IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM, ANOTHER WATCH MAY BE POSTED FOR LATER TONIGHT ACCORDING TO SPC.
DISCUSSION: There have not been many severe weather reports yet, I am checking the SPC hourly to see if any new reports have come in. Flash flooding is occurring across the region so please take extra care when traveling tonight. If you can stay home, please do. If you must travel tonight, please remember the National Weather Service’s saying, “turn around, don’t drown.” Night time is especially dangerous when it comes to flooded roadways because you cannot determine how deep the water is. Even in daylight, it is difficult for you to determine the depth of the water. Dangerous thunderstorms are moving through the region as well. Lightning is one of nature’s number one killer. Remember if you can hear thunder you are close enough to be struck. Cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring in many of these thunderstorms. For your safety, please remain indoors until the storm has passed. Electronical use should be limited and this includes computers, televisions, telephones, etc. Also, you should not take a shower, take a bath, or swim during a thunderstorm. Wait 20 to 30 minutes after the last strike to resume normal activities (using electronics, showering, swimming, etc.). I have to shut my computer down for a bit as I’m currently in a bad lightning storm.
