Dreary Saturday

Below is the weather outlook around the region. Stationary front with waves of low pressure will continue to impact southern New England throughout the day keeping the clouds and showers around. Further to the north across New England, high pressure is in control and should keep the sun shining!

Fireworks or not?

The weather just doesn’t have good timing this year. The 4th of July is one of the biggest weekends of the summer where many families come to together to celebrate our independence. A cold front though may keep the fireworks from exploding over portions of the New York City and Philadelphia metro areas. The problem is this cold front is very sluggish to move out of the region and will eventually stall out. As this front stalls out waves of low pressure will ride along this front and bring periods of rain throughout this weekend. Mainly for today, I think the precipitation is showery but then during the overnight tonight and Saturday - early Tuesday we’ll see showers too but we’ll also see periods of rain. We’re going to have to deal with this front throughout the entire week next week. The front will clear the NYC metro area early on Tuesday but then will make a rebound towards us by the end of next week as a warm front. The models have been hinting at another big warm up and this should be ushered in I think by the end of next weekend. This has the potential to be our second heat wave 1 of the season. We’ll see.

Please remember thunderstorm safety tips. In the event of thunderstorms please seek shelter indoors. Avoid contact with electronics, water, and stay away from windows. Remember this rule, if you hear thunder you are close enough to get struck by lightning.

Further towards the north across New England, I think you’ll see spectacular weather over the next few days. It will not be until late Monday into Tuesday when we may see our next chance of precipitation. Temperatures will be mild, enjoy! All areas north of Albany will be rain free, enjoy the fireworks!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

Another soggy weekend??

The models just don’t want to give us a break with this unsettled weather pattern. Cold front is clearing through the New England region as we speak, however, further towards the south it spells trouble. I think the weekend will be spectacular from Albany on northward this weekend as the action should stay to the south of that region. Some high clouds may get in the way from Albany northward into southern VT and NH but other then looking good.

For areas south of Albany particualry the Connecticut, NYC metro areas, NJ, and Philadelphia metro areas this weekend looks like another wishy washy weekend. I can not rule out sporadic showers and thunderstorms from later on tonight through at least Monday. Looks like showers and storms throughout much of the day tomorrow and tomorrow night. The front looks to clear the area during the day tomorrow, but it will be very slow to do so. The humidity should stay with us even after the front has passed. It appears that this front stalls out around Atlatnic City or just south of Atlantic City. Waves of low pressure will ride along this front on Saturday and Sunday bringing in periods of heavy showers and precipitation. This messy weather appears to get kicked out on Monday or Tuesday of next week. A return to mild and fair weather by the middle and end of next week.

Independence Day Outlook

Can you believe it’s almost the 4th of July already? Time flies so fast! Looking over the models it seems that much of the east will continue to be in an unsettled weather pattern. An area of high pressure will be moving into the region later on tonight and will be in control tomorrow and much of the day on Thursday before increasing clouds, showers and thunderstorms roll in. Looks like a sluggish front moves in from the west during the day on Friday. The models have been sluggish to bring this front through the day on Friday and both the 12z GFS/WRF and the 18z GFS/WRF continue this idea. I think the Euro was slightly faster with the progression of the front. The idea was to have the front move quickly off the coast on Friday morning clearing us out by the afternoon. This front was supposed to make a comeback into the region late in the weekend. However, I think the models are keying in on a slower progression of the frontal system moving into and out of the region on Friday. Eastern areas of the Northeast may be lucky to spare most if not all of Thursday if the trends continue. Unfortunately, this means that the 4th of July may have some issues with potential showers and thunderstorms throughout the region. I don’t think this will be a washout by any means, but all areas will be at risk for sudden thunderstorms and showers. Much of how this past weekend and this week has been. Depending on the ultimate speed of the front the start of Saturday may be at risk of showers and storms, but we could clear out by the afternoon. Sunday looks like best day this weekend with temperatures in the 80s under generally mild conditions. High pressure builds in behind this system for next week’s weather.
